Quite an Odd Boot Fit
To cut a very boring and long story shot. A customer came into our store with a boot that was far, far too wide for her. She had so much movement in her boot that all of this (image below) was stuffed inside to try and combat it. I know! And she was still, swimming inside the boot. This was a very emotional process for her as she had been dealing with this for four years. It’s the fact that other boot fitters added all of this extra stuff for her. This is why it was “Quite an Odd Boot Fit”.
I wanted to make sure her next boot would be nothing short of PERFECT. I spent a lot of time sizing her feet but both were very narrow. The boots we had would be better for her, but not perfect. I’d have to order something especially for her…
I had to do something to get her skiing comfortably with her friends and family as she was going to be in these boots for the next week or so and rental boots would have also been too wide for her. I decided to do something quite unorthodox. Removing all of the fillers from under her foot to get her back down, closer to the snow. I then shaped and packed on the foam onto the liner. Normally this creates sore spots and a lot of pain and discomfort. With a lot of grinding a tweaking we had a much firmer and closer fit. Without the discomfort. She was able to ski more confidently than she ever had ever done before.
It wasn’t perfect. I know. But the boot was such a bad fit to start with. She was able to ski in comfort and in control.
The Boot Fit
Now her new boots have arrived. The Rossignol PURE Elite 80 and they fit perfectly. We haven’t had to do any adjustments after the initial fit. In fact, I’ve only seen her twice since. Both to tell me how comfortable her boots are and how much better her skiing has gotten. How much more confident she was now because she was in control. Finishing this one seriously made my week.
